GEGs are communities of educators who share, inspire and empower each other to meet the needs of students through technology solutions, both in the classroom and beyond.

GEG is an independent community run initiative to which Google is the primary partner and inspiration. GEGs are for any educator who is passionate about meeting the needs of their students through technology solutions and collaborating with other educators who feel the same way. GEG’s provide a space where like-minded educators interested in open technology to improve learning can come together to discuss Google tools and the latest technologies, and get inspirational new ideas about using technology to excite their students and increase their own efficiency as teachers. With GEG’s, educators can find like-minded individuals and build relationships which will help them gain the necessary skills to use Google technology, allowing them to deliver the best possible education to their students.

What are GEGs?

GEGs, or Google Educator Groups, are communities of educators who share, inspire and empower each other to meet the needs of students through technology solutions, both in the classroom and beyond. Google believes that the best inspiration to educators are other educators. It is for this reason that Google helped start the GEG community and GEGs are run independently of Google by educators, for educators.

Who are GEGs for?

GEGs are for any educator who is passionate about meeting the needs of their students through technology solutions and collaborating with other educators who feel the same way.

What form do GEGs take?

GEG activities take place both online and offline. Online GEGs provide a space for educators to discuss together and learn about one another; offline, the locally run events or meetups are then a way to learn and share face to face. At GEG meetups you will physically come together with other educators who are interested and passionate about discovering new ways to meet the needs of students by leveraging innovative technology solutions. You might hear an expert sharing knowledge and experience about how to use a certain technology for education, or maybe you begin to share your own ideas and build relationships with other passionate educators, or you are actively working together on a technology and education project, etc. How a GEG meetup is run is totally up to the organizing group and it could take a number of different forms.
How can I get involved in GEG?

Just attend any of the GEG-organized events online or face to face and you’re involved. If you have fun you can continue to go back to more events and follow the group on Google+. Make sure to follow the GEG country G+ community or a GEG’s Google+ page where new meet-ups may be announced. Some GEGs are targeted within specific school networks, while others are organized geographically and composed of educators from a variety of school networks. All GEG events are supposed to be free of charge and open to anyone. If you're interested, you can learn more by speaking to the Google regional representative in your country or an existing GEG leader

What does it take to be a GEG leader?

If you’re ready to take it even higher, you can become one of the GEG leaders preparing all the fun for your GEG and its participants. You are a visionary educator who is excited about the benefits of open technology in learning. You are already experimenting with new ways to use technology in the classroom and inspiring others to collaborate and share. If this is you, you may be a good GEG leader.  If you’re interested in being a GEG leader of an existing group, reach out to the current leader and let them know you want to help. If you want to start a new GEG, reach out to an existing GEG leader in your country, or a GEG partner, and they can nominate you to start a new group.
